I finally found time to get some drawing in. As far as I’m concerned I should be drawing all the time, but sometimes even the most basic things fill your day. Anyway here is my first new wash drawing of this year. I hope that you enjoy it.

First New Pencil Drawing of 2009 – Pussy 44 (pencil on cream paper)

Here is my first new pencil drawing for 2009. The drawing was created on a cream paper, which unfortunately is difficult to see on a computer screen along with the fine details.

Pussy 41 – Charcoal Drawing on Cream Paper

Today I finished this new charcoal drawing done in a slightly larger format from the 8×10 paper I usually use.  My original intention was to create this particular drawing on a larger scale, probably around 24×18, but I am happy with how it turned out on a 12×9.  It is amazing how scale can change the impact or presentation of the subject.  Most of my work I like to have a more intimate presentation, thus the small scale.  I find it more interesting to have those who view my work to have to come closer in order to fully see all of the details.  This also creates a one-on-one engagement between the viewer and art work.  It is like a whisper compared to a shout.  Any piece that is larger than an average person is clearly shouting.  Something to think about when you have the opportunity to view art in person.

Here is a new pencil drawing that I finished today.  The drawing was created on a cream paper, which unfortunately is difficult to see on a computer screen, but it definitely adds to the drawing.

Pussy 39 – Latest Charcoal Drawing

Here is a new charcoal drawing that I finished today.  Charcoal is such a great medium that can create sharp dark edges or allow for a very soft smoky appearance.
